In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “New Skin.”
If you could spend the next year as someone radically different from the current “you” — a member of a different species, someone from a different gender or generation, etc. — who would you choose to be?
On how I love these prompts, they have inspired my thoughts for my writings, short stories, and poetry. Well, I digress, so let me see, if I had a year to live as someone or a different species, I would wish to spend the year as a seven-year old American Bald Eagle.
I would weigh around 14 pounds, with a wingspan of 90 inches, flying and hunting in Southwest Florida, fishing the tributaries, small lakes and the Everglades.
I would hunt an area between 1,700 to 10,000 acres, I would glide at an altitude of 10,00o feet, choosing my food items from the buffet below.
I would share my time in the skies, with my mate and as we glide the heavens together enjoying the scenery for miles around with our keen eyesight.
We would share the duties in the nest for our young who live nearby and on occasions we meet after retrieving a meal from the local waters.
In 2007, my species of Eagle was taken off the endangered species list and we have thrived to enjoy the skies around the US.
I am the national symbol a great country and the inspiration of many. I am at the top of the food chain, perched high atop a tree peering out towards the my horizon, my profile is majestic and I plan to live forever.
The first post of 2015, Happy New Year!
