Expedition Nomadic Adventures

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “First!.”

Tell us about your first day at something — your first day of school, first day of work, first day living on your own, first day blogging, first day as a parent, whatever.

After many years of experiencing life, there are many firsts, I can easily recall, starting with the birth of my first born, my first day at Boy Scout Camp, My first day of High School, my first day and night of College, and theres a story, I will never tell.

However, one of my favorite memories is the day I plugged the monitor into the computer, I bought my son.

He sat in front of the computer and I sat behind him, as we listened to the dial up tones connecting to the internet via AOL. We, both smiled as we watched the monitor screen ignite with the Microsoft 95 logo.

Suddenly my son, turned to me and innocently asked “What type of computer did you have when you were growing up dad?”

The question surprised and astonished me beyond belief, as I sat completely dumbfounded for about five seconds. I was brought back to reality when I heard the dial up signal attempting a second time to connect to AOL.

I tried to recall a piece of technology I possessed at the age of twelve, and I could only imagine a desk top calculator my mother used for my father’s business.

When I told my son abou the large electical calculator and I grew up without a computer, his eyes widen with surprise. I went on to explain that math teachers refused to allow a student to use the expensive small hand held calculators in the classroom.

Heck, the only piece of technology I possessed was a SST racer.

He again looked at me with a perplexed look, as I tried to explain the SST that is in the Youtube video below.

There will always be “First’s”  of  many of life’s great moments, however none are as memorable as those with family and friends.
