“Agree to Disagree”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Agree to Disagree.”

Do you have a good friend or close relative with whom you disagree on a major issue (political, personal, cultural)? What’s the issue, and how do you make the relationship work?

#Life'sWounding

I have many family members, and lifelong friends for whom I disagree with on many issues of politics, religion, and parenting just to name a few. I was given the best advice and wisdom by my father who said that you never debate politics or religion with family or friends, for you will eventually have neither.

As my life has progressed, I have taken the words of wisdom to heart and I have learned to disagree in silence.

One way to look at this issue of whether to discuss these issues with family or friends is simply to recall the following.

When or if you pray, most of the time it is done in silence with your own thoughts. When you vote in polling places in America the curtain is closed giving privacy to your decision.

If both of these are afforded the respect and silence of oneself, why debate your silence.

One of the greatest statements I have come to love, is “If the person you are debating with does not help you pay a bill or sleep with you at night then there is no debate.
