Please to Meet You

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Pleased to Meet You.”

Write a post in which the protagonists of two different books or movies meet for the first time. How do they react to each other? Do they get along?

With this prompt I think of my two favorite actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino who both are well into their late nineties living in different areas around Palm Beach Florida during the winter.

One day they’re great grandchildren realized that neither has seen each other for several years and decided to take the two aging actors to meet at an upscale restaurant overlooking the ocean to meet.

The two men are slowly guided into the restaurant surrounded by their numerous grandchildren and seated at a table next to each other. Neither looks at each other as everyone take their seats.

Once settled into their chairs, the grandchildren become quiet when Robert De Niro turns toward Al Pacino and stares for a moment. No one is speaking and even the waiters are standing in silence, when suddenly, De Niro yells aloud, “You talking to me!” from the movie Taxi Driver.

Al Pacino doesn’t move a muscle or even blink, when he slowly turns his head recognizing and acknowledging Robert De Niro seated next to him in reply he yells aloud, “Wo Ah!” from the movie Scent of a woman.

Everyone including waiters and surrounding tables burst into laughter. The laughing became so boisterous that Robert De Niro began a cough fit. As everyone tried to give him some water to clear his throat.

Al Pacino with tears of laughter in his eyes, leans over handing his table napkin to De Niro, in his best Cuban accented voice from the movie “Scar Face,” says “Say hello to my to my little friend”

The table erupts into laughter again and soon they ordered food to settle in for a great afternoon of reminiscing of the past.
