In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Play Lexicographer.”
Create a new word and explain its meaning and etymology.
As a child, my sister and I along with my friends on many occasions used words that were not in the dictionary. This frustrated my mother and many English teachers from elementary through high school.
We would used words like “Whatchamacallit” which is actually the name of a candy bar. “That Thiingamabob” which is a word used to describe whatever we couldn’t describe.
However, the word that angered my mother fiercely was our use of the word “Aint,” or as she would correct us, I am not. This word is a slang contraction of “Is not,” “Are not,” “Am not,” “Do not,” and, “Does not”.
So, for me to create a word, I pondered and reflected deeply on the issues of retirement and my life style.
My new word is, Retireelifestylateboomer: The word describes a retired person who enjoys being retired, born between 1960 -1964 and apart of the tail-end of the baby-boomer generation.
The word describes me and many other people who planed their retirement very well and this segment of retirees are mostly empty-nesters with lots of time to write, read and blog.
Now, I know, this is a multiple compound word, however the history and meaning of many words are compounds of other words and meanings.
Plan and live your retirement years, similar to the years before marriage and children, and you will be happy.
