“Buffalo Nickel”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Buffalo Nickel.”

Dig through your couch cushions, your purse, or the floor of your car and look at the year printed on the first coin you find. What were you doing that year?

Oh, I will never find coins laying in the cushions of my couch, as I place all of my coinage in a coin cup I keep on the counter as I enter my home. To follow the direction of this daily prompt, I dip my hand in the coin cup and pull out a coin, a penny to be exact, with the year of 1975!

Now, 1975, was a very good year, for I was a teenaged lad beginning my first year in middle school. After a hot summer in the city, I was, in my mind the coolest, young man I could be.

I had my blue bell-bottom jeans with silver studs of course, with a pressed crease, a fresh lined hair cut, a blue print shirt with brown suede, “Hush-puppy” shoes.

Oh, yeah, I distinctively recall the year, as I also had a pair of Black Chuck Taylor Tennis shoes, and a pair of blue and white plat-form shoes. Yeah, I was cool in my early teen years and dressed to show.

Oh yes, this is the year I gave up the view-master, GI-Joe action figures, toy trucks and car’s to include my Mattel, Hot-wheel cars and my old bicycle.

But, that summer, I gained a ten speed bicycle to take me further around my neighborhood, and I learned to play with “Click-Clacks,”  which were quickly banned because some kids kept getting hurt. I also dreamed of getting the new “Atari” game console for Christmas.

The music of 1975, was designed for me to be cool. I was listening to Minnie Riperton’s “Loving You,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Shinning Star,” The Spinners, “They just can’t stop it, the games people play,” The “O” Jays, “Give the People What they Want,” and my favorite the Ohio Players, “Love Rollercoaster!”

Oh yeah, 1975, was a very good year.

Ah, the music was outstanding, and the fashion was… Well, let’s just keep the Chuck Taylors and move on. I remember those click-clack toys, and the damage they did. It’s hard to believe they ever made it to market! Thanks for this post, I’m filled with nostalgia now. 🙂

No problem, I’m going to search on the internet to locate some Plat-Form shoes and Click-clacks. LOL!

    Another great nostalgia evoking post!
In 75 I was a junior in high school. It was a good year! I had pretty much figured out my teen years and was happily dating a guy who I have now been married to for 34 years! I loved my one pair of platform shoes, and click clacks… they were on their second unsuccessful round. I had a pair in the 60’s, which eventually shattered, and managed to buy a pair in the 70’s before they were banned.
How about footsies, do you remember them? They were a plastic circle that went around one ankle. Then there was a cord with a plastic bell shape on the end. You would spin the bell around with the one foot and hop over the spinning cord with the other.
Thanks again for another trip down memory lane! 🙂

Great nostalgic moment, Marty! Loved the 70s. I was 15 and was friends with a boy in high school who became my husband in 2013! I remember footsies!! @terryb. Ladies, do you remember those wide leg pants called palazzos? Then we wore Dittos jeans. Ah, the awkwardness of that decade.

Yes, the dangerous clicky-clacks. My wrists were bruised and sore, but that didn’t stop me from trying to make the sound continuous. My parents finally banned them from the house. Yes, 1975 was a good year. In love and light Cheryle
