In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Worldly Encounters.”

The friendly, English-speaking extraterrestrial you run into outside your house is asking you to recommend the one book, movie, or song that explains what humans are all about. What do you pick?

If I meet an extraterrestrial outside my home asking me to recommend one book, movie or song to explain humanity, I would and could not answer their question, however, I would recommend the following.

I recommend the extra terrestrial spend the next five years, living among humans with a minimum of three months’ on every continent, learning and speaking as many languages as possible.

The extraterrestrial should learn and understand the history of every race, culture, and ethnic group they meet during their three months.

After five years, if they have not contracted a disease, been assaulted, criticize for who they are, solicited to become apart of any religion, or political organization, and they have not become addicted to any substance or fallen in love with popular culture, I believe their original question will be answered.

My question is, would they survive humanity?

  1. If they have a super-human intelligence, they are likely to survive and do well for themselves!

  2. Oh, yes, but would they stay to enjoy the earth and its inhabitants or would they leave in disgust?
