The mix tape of my life is covers various genre’s of music of the past 100 plus years. My early exposure to classical music, performing in the concert and marching bands during elementary, middle and high school was an incredible life learning experience.

However, my father exposed me to his love of the blues. Jazz along with my mother love of gospel music of the 50’s and 60’s were a combine class of music that ultimately effected of my love of all music.

Beginning in the mid to late 1970’s I was fortunately blessed to be exposed to the original inception of early “Rap.” There are so many original “Rap’ groups but Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 are the sound track of my teenage years.

There are countless others “Rap groups who have come to the forefront of what is now called “HIp-Hop.” But, for me Grandmaster Flash is what I danced to and excited me when “Rap” was disliked by my parents.

Several years into puberty my father accepted the idea of “Rap” music when he explained to me how the Jazz music he listened to of his time was criticized and disliked. Ray Charles and the original “Rap” artist from the late 40’s and 50’s Louis Jordan were not initially accepted in certain conservative black communities.

My exposure to the early 80’s European music scene while living in West Germany, shaped my understanding of music worldwide. Over the years my love of classical music provided me with concentration and clarity when I studied many of my college courses. I will always maintain a collection of my favorite Tenor, Luciano Pavarotti.

The top-five songs that define my life.
