“Truth or Dare”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Truth or Dare.”

Is it possible to be too honest, or is honesty always the best policy?

The question of telling the truth has always mystified me.

All major religions have incorporated the belief that telling a lie is being dishonest and morally it is considered a sign of dishonesty in all of human evolution and every society. I was raised on the phrase. “The Truth, Shall Set You Free” and thou shall not tell a lie is the 9th commandment.

I believed telling the truth is the best policy. This belief was strengthened with my Boy Scout Oat and Promise promoting the belief of never tell a lie. The Military Oath directly states that dishonest officers and non-commission personnel will be removed from their position, or other disciplinary action taken. Law Enforcement, Political Officials, and people held in positions of authority are supposed to always tell the truth.

So, when a husband, wife, or significant other asks a question, why should a thoughtful answer be contemplated? Adults tell young children about Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, and the boogeyman when honesty is the best policy

During my lifetime many have said I’m too honest, but I’ll have a clear conscious and I do not need to recall the lie.

The truth is always best, I am just that way as a Christ follower woman.

It’s really weird how something so simple as telling the truth can be so complicated.

It’s only complicated if we make it so. God blesses us all.

I am pretty truthful and open. But I have things I would probably never share openly. If I don’t want to share I’m evasive rather then lying.

I have learned to just keep quiet and my silence has allow those to comprehend the truth. LOl!
