“Dear Leader”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Dear Leader.”

If your government (local or national) accomplishes one thing this year, what would you like that to be?

Most politicians debate the issues for years while the needs of their constituents wait for the ruling and decisions, while these debates, discussions, and lobbying for all sides continue for what seems to be forever.

As an accomplishment for this year, I wish all politicians at every level of government to debate, and conclude within a thirty day period on any and all issues and especially those they have spent the past year debating. However, if no decision can be achieved, the politicians must remain in session with Saturday and Sunday off, but no more than two days off during National Holidays or religious celebrations.

Their work days will not exceed twelve hours, but, no less than ten hours. Their pay decreases by ten percent daily after sixty days into the debate of an issue. After ninety days, their health and retirement benefits will be terminated. If fifty percent of the issues during their term office cannot come to a conclusion, they can not be re-elected to any political office, work for any political organization, or lobbying group for ten years.

Since this is all creative writing and wishful thinking, I would be satisfied with politicians not voting themselves a pay raised this year.
