In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Lookin’ Out My Back Door.”
Look out your back window or door — describe what you see, as if you were trying to convey the scene to someone from another country or planet.
In the afternoon, my back window or lanai provides views of torrential rains. These daily Southwest Florida rains during the summer, raise the water levels of the lake.
The water now covers the ducks former seating area under a tree where they wait for morning walkers to throw seed and bread their way.
The rocks turtles sit on in the morning are now covered and I wonder where they have gone. Grasses break through the surface of the lake to provide seating for dragonflies and other insects, who rest and sun themselves.
With the increase in rains, gar-fish circle the lakes shore to feed upon minnows.
Rain changes my neighborhoods view out looking out my back door.
Your words make me want to join you for a squint out your back door.
Theres another great torrential down pour taking place now, but it will pass. Lol!

Haven’t seen a gar fish in many years and never of that size. That is for me a truly amazing fish and photo. Thanks for sharing.
I know this Gar was several years old moving smoothly along in the water.
I actually had no idea they could be that big! I am kind of glad I didn’t know as I used to hurl myself off the end of a dock into the river never considering those little five and six inch gars had BIG MOMMAS !
It is amazing how many times I have swam in rivers, lakes and oceans never realizing, I was not at the top of the food chain. Lol! 🙂
