In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Obstacle Course.”

Think about what you wanted to accomplish last week. Did you? What are the things that hold you back from doing everything you’d like to do?

Last week’s agenda was completed, and I was able to accomplish my writing assignments and arrive safely after some traveling. Now, my reading desires have suffered, and I will catch up this week.

Cleaning and exercise are two procrastination activities that keep me from achieving my goals, to finish writing or reading.

During the writing process of this post, I cleaned the kitchen, boiled water for tea and made a peanut butter and jelly bagel sandwich. My exercise procrastination is usually walking two or three miles believing the next writing idea will formulate or I’m listening to audio books.

My procrastinations can become an obstacle course to finish, however, I will always have a clean house and fairly good cardio.

I’ve lived in Paris, France for 10 years and only got to listen to 1. The other ones are either reserved for creative writing students or asking for an ticket fee so high I can’t afford them.

    Good valid points on procrastination!

Why thank you. These are mine and many others procrastinations issues many writers encounters daily.

One way I avoid this is by writing away from home at my local Starbucks or library. Both locations frown upon me cleaning up their public areas. 🙂

More good ideas. I’ve been known to slip into a little bar or pub … something about writing about life while it’s all around you.

I know, I just thinking about the very idea about an hour ago.

Some of my characters personalities are derived from people watching.

No imagination needed when the world passes by

As Walt Whitman said, and you can never misquote him because he wrote it so many different ways, “I am a part of every person I have ever met. What I assume, you assume; but I separate myself and sing myself, and we are but “Leaves of Grass.”

procrastination has been one of my problems too!

I have discovered many writers have similar procrastinations as they write. I believe it is a time honored tradition.

I seem to cycle through periods of being very organized and productive, and then rebel against it with a few days of play. But the morning walks, meditation, and reading always remain constant. But oh the joy that permeates it all because I’m passed those many years of being required to show up anywhere.
