“Red Pill, Blue Pill”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Red Pill, Blue Pill.”

If you could get all the nutrition you needed in a day with a pill — no worrying about what to eat, no food preparation — would you do it?

HippocratesQuote

Three years ago I would have taken either red or blue pill, however, when I cut the cable cord, I stumbled upon several food documentaries on Netflix. They are “Forks over Knives,” “Food Matters” and “Vegucated.” They changed my opinion of what I was consuming and I what I will forever consume into my future.

I realized and understand that no pill can ever take the place of fresh vegetable and fruits eaten daily. So, I have eliminated all processed foods of any type. This transition was not immediate and it has taken some time to adjust to a life without “Triscits,” and sugary drinks.

I replaced processed food items and drinks with homemade crackers, hummus, guacamole, and lemon water. My meat options include only fresh fish and some frozen seafood.

What is unique are the changes I have experienced for better health, so I will pass on the imaginary red or blue pill.

Yes. I’m with you. Once the change happens you can’t go back. I’ve cut sugar and meat out of my diet. I eat plenty of greens, onions, fresh fruit and I’ve replaced “health drinks” with water. I do allow myself a morning coffee and but I am transitioning to green tea. I feel better than I did when I was 20.

Hey great!, I’m on my last bag of coffee beans and will be purchasing my green, chai, and spice teas within the week. I’m slowly moving away from natural sugar, and transitioning to honey.
