In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “That Stings!.”

Franz Kafka said, “we ought to read only books that bite and sting us.” What’s the last thing you read that bit and stung you?

Earlier this year I read a book titled Ruby, and I just could not stop until I finished. The author Cynthia Bond’s eloquent prose is poetry to read as she wove a tale of horrible incidents that even shocked me.

Ruby Bell, fights her way out of Liberty TX for the big lights of New York City. However, after receiving a telegram begging her to return home. She returns to the man who secretly loved her from afar and the many horrible reasons she left.

With every scene, the author paints a detailed picture of every scene filling the reader’s mind with vivid details and nuances.

Ruby is one of the best novels I have soaked up, in many years, that I thoroughly enjoyed.
