“No, Thank You”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “No, Thank You.”

If you could permanently ban a word from general usage, which one would it be? Why?

In honor of my mother, my English teachers during my elementary, middle, and high school years, I would permanently banned the word “ain’t.” The word “ain’t” was the first word I was told to not use as a child. As my life progressed I do not use the word in my daily language and definitely not in my formal English writings.

However, I love playing with informal words, so here I go.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and I ain’t going to worry about it, because it ain’t broken.

Now, my mother and several of my English teachers are rolling their eyes as I wrote this, so I will finish with. I ain’t going to use the word ain’t no more.

I just realized I don’t use the word “ain’t” since becoming an adult either. And I cringe when I hear another adult use it.

I constantly hear my mother and English teachers in my head when I hear the word spoken. 🙂
