“Only Sixteen”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Only Sixteen.”

Tell us all about the person you were when you were sixteen. If you haven’t yet hit sixteen, tell us about the person you want to be at sixteen.

Oh yes, to recall the dreaded year of being sixteen. Well, this was the year before the dawn of the 80’s and my high school anthem was MacFadden & Whitehead’s “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now.”

I remember those days fondly, and I will gladly divulge the activities that took place during that time of my life.

At sixteen years of age, I was a Boy Scout leader, Alter Boy in the Catholic Church, a member of the high school concert and marching band. I was a member of the football team, and a member of the audio video club at my high school.

I maintained all “A’s” in all of my college preparatory classes, and I was receiving college scholarship offers and invites for Football and Band.

I had my drivers license, and I drove the church van to pick up senior church members. I maintained a job during the summer evenings as a parking lot attendant when the baseball team was in town. I didn’t have a girlfriend because my nerves to ask a girl out had yet to developed.

I survived my great year of sixteen, without arrest, disciplining from my parents, no fighting in my neighborhood or school. My parents were strict disciplinarians so I was a teenager any parent would loved to have called son.

Thank goodness, this prompt did not ask about my 14 and 15 years. By the age of sixteen, my friends and I learned how be more conniving and sneakier than teens of today with all of their technology.

You only think you were sneaky. I bet your parents knew more than they let on. ^_^

Well, no one died, no one went to jail, and no state or federal laws were broken. Now, parents laws may have been fractured a little, but I will never tell. At least not while some of the parents are still alive. Lol! 🙂
