“Forward Drive”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Forward Drive.”

What is the one thing that drives you to wake up in the morning and do whatever it is you do? Is it writing, family, friends, or something else entirely?

Forward March, is the way I feel every morning when my eyes open, I’m breathing, my heart is pumping and I’m still above ground.

It’s between 5 and 6 am and my mind drifts towards thoughts of a leisurely bicycle ride or walk to my local park or beach, where I will photograph the sunrise, landscapes, and wildlife. This is also a time for exercise and meditation.

After the walk or bike ride and about a hundred photos. I return home excited with my thoughts filled with writing ideas. Yes, writing is my motivation along with reading,

However, some mornings, after the forward march thoughts, I think of my blessings and fall back to sleep. 🙂

Love the energy of this post. It leaves me feeling motivated and charged for the weekend ahead. A great reminder to try and fit in some meditation in the early morning. Good call.

Oh yes! There is nothing like a little self reflection to organize thought and settle the mind.

This is a great quote…thanks for posting it…a good remembrance for me when I go to sleep at night. I will have to write this one down.

Sounds like a nice way of life; I especially love the part when you sometimes go back to sleep. Honestly, I’m not sure what gets me out of bed. Right now it’s really just my daughter, and when she is not here I really have to push myself. In starting over, I am going to find passions, meet new people, and have new experiences, but it will take time… which I don’t like.

Patience & time is the key. I spent the last 12-hours reading and I think I going to do it again tomorrow.

Getting lost in a story of your desire is a great way of escape, to either learn or expand perception, depending on what you are reading.

Wow…12 hours. I can read for about 5 hours sometimes, and I love getting lost in a story or learning something like you said. I’m currently reading Mindsets. It is the new psychology of success. Basically it’s about having a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. My daughter’s school is teaching this philosophy to the students. It’s a simple concept with powerful results.

I’m going to look up “Mindsets” on Goodreads. I’m reading “Devil in the Grove,” historical non fiction highlighting a case Former Supreme court justice Thurgood Marshal resented in the 1940’s & 50’s

            That sounds interesting. ….
The author is Dr. Carol Dweck. An example is a fixed mindset is I’m terrible in math. A growth mindset is how can I get better in math? And the book describes it in all areas of life. My daughter and I were shopping and often it can be stressful. It went well and I told her great job. She said that’s because I decided it was going to be fine, it was my m I minset! I was like yay!!!

I found it and log it to read on my Good Read site.

Great…now you’ll be Hmmm how can I do that instead of I can’t do that. But you seem to be living well, so I imagine you are more of an I can do that. All my life if I wanted to do something out of the norm it was you can’t do that, from parents to ex to my own brain. So now I’m working on telling that voice the opposite.

My previous life as single father and career held responsibilities of what was expected. However, for the new chapter of my life, I’m doing exactly what I want to do.

After was almost 30 years since I was allowed live as I want instead of for family or career, the journey and transition has been weird.

I discovered writing and reading as a passion, yet, everyday they fight for my attention and affections.

Now that I have added photography to the table it is really one hell of a love triangle.

You took care of your kids and your responsibilities, and that’s what I’m doing. In between I find time to do things I want to do too. I’m glad you are living the way you want. That’s the best. Sometimes, often I feel trapped by those responsibilities. I’m a free spirit mentally and my desires don’t always fit in my life. I’m working on trying to bring some of those things into my life in some capacity. Enjoy your new chapter. The transition I’m sure has been weird. I’m just so confused bc I’m 47 and abruptly ended a 20 year teaching career, and I have no idea what to do with that. And in order to keep receiving my pension, bc it’s disability, I am not allowed to work in amy capacity, like tutoring for example. I really don’t know what to do with that. Eventually I’ll volunteer and things will unfold in time but each day I wake up with that feeling. I keep moving, but I feel lost. Sorry I’m rambling. Thanks for listening.

                      You not rambling. 🙂
