I believe your mystery flower is a hibiscus. I’ve never seen a yellow one. They do flower in Canada during the summer months and I have a couple of these plants in my garden but have to bring them into the house in the fall. They don’t winter in our climate. Bravo, it is a very special photo.

Hey Marianne, you are correct. I forgot to identify the flower at the time and when I was leaving the Garden club when one of the volunteers gave the name. 🙂

Here in Mexico they are called Obelisco flowers…and the red ones are used to make a drink called Jamaica. Very popular and usually served cold with sugar.

If you actually make it, put the dried flower petals in a collander and rinse them off before you actually put them in the boiling water. I even soak mine in cold water for 10 minutes, then rinse them in a collander. It makes a big difference in the taste of the jamaica. Takes the bitterness away.
