“Ode To A Playground”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Ode to a Playground.”

A place from your past or childhood, one that you’re fond of, is destroyed. Write it a memorial.

You have served me very well for two years. I climbed, swung and slid on my playground set, and now my parents have decided to move it away.

As a five-year-old I was not upset yet only a little saddened by my parent’s decision. I would miss my time, swinging back and forth, leaning back, looking towards the starry summer night sky.

I would miss rolling my cars and trucks down the slide, and miss climbing on the sides and swinging from the bars.

I was overwhelmed and elated when the above ground pool arrived. I watched in amazement it’s constructing and I smiled from ear to ear as I help hold the hose to fill the pool with water.

When school ended, I enjoyed my pool the entire summer, and there were times I often look towards my old playground set and felt a little guilty. It stood lonely by itself with only my pet dog laying beneath the slide.

When, school started again, and the temperatures began to fall, my parents forbid my siblings and me from entering the pool. I reunited with my playground that stood lonely for months with only my dog keeping it company.

So glad I tagged my last post Blogging 201 which I guess is how you found my recent post. I always enjoy your posts – thought I was “following” you but I don’t think your posts have been showing up in my reader. Still so much to learn. Nice to reconnect.
