Was there a toy or thing you always wanted as a child, during the holidays or on your birthday, but never received? Tell us about it.

As a child growing up, I remember looking through a Sears Roebuck catalog making my Christmas wish list. I was age 9 or 10 when I made my list one year and gave it to my mother who was going to get it to Santa Clause.

That Christmas year, I discovered Santa Clause had an intermediary process because, my father interviewed me concerning my list, in particular, my desire for a cassette tape recorder complete with microphone and earpiece. I thought I gave the correct answers concerning good behavior and especially having received an excellent report card.

However, I did not provide the correct answers needed to get a cassette recorder for Christmas. As my father explained, “I was too young for a cassette recorder, and I should wait until I was older.”

That was over forty years ago, and I can still feel the emotional pain of hearing my father’s explanation. Although, I did receive my chemistry set that year, however, I made a mess of my mother’s kitchen which I was scolded for and I was banished to my fathers garage for further experiments. (That’s another story)

So, when I recently walked through a flea market, I came upon an old cassette tape recorder just like the one pictured above from the Sears Roebuck catalog.

My mind flashed back to the time of my desires for the cassette recorder and my feelings of nostalgia began to swell inside me. So, I took a photo of the cassette recorder with my cellular phone, which is also a recorder and performs so many other functions.

I thought to myself how some forty years later, my dad was right. I needed to wait until I was older to have the cassette recorder, however, little did he know that I would have so much more in the palm of my hand.

I hope that within the next thirty or forty years my children will let me ride with them in their personal intergalactic vehicle for trips. For this is my Christmas wish, and I’m just waiting until I get older. 🙂

It is possible although now the current smartphone is way beyond what anyone could have imagined. Although, I’m looking for those mass-produced flying cars. 🙂
