“Fright Night”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Fright Night.”

What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?

There are not too many things or issues in life that I’m fearful of because I am more cautious than fearful. The extreme sport of  skydiving and bungee jumping are two items on my bucket list.

I recently awoke from a horrible sweat drenching dream of skydiving.

In the dream I was trying to sleep the night before the skydiving attempt but, my mind was filled with the safety precautions I have to remember before I jump.

Before my first solo skydiving attempt. I tandem jumped several times and attended a certified skydiving school. My training  helped build my confidence and reinforced my cautious nature as I prepared.

My dream continues as I jump out of the plane free-falling back to earth. When I activate my parachute, it doesn’t open. I free fall hurtling towards the earth at speeds I have only achieved by car and motorcycle. My reserve parachute activated at the prescribed altitude, and I began descending slowly towards earth.

As my fear subsides from my main parachute not deploying, yet thankful for the reserve. A bird collides with the canopy of the reserve parachute tearing a hole the size of a watermelon, and I begin descending towards earth a little faster than needed.

I’m able to control my descent, landing fortunately on the muddy shoreline of a lake. I wake from the dream as I fall onto the mud.

I believe the horrible dream reinforces my cautious nature to check and re-check my equipment since I survived and that anything is possible to happen.

Skydiving and Bungee jumping are the last two items on my bucket list and It will take several years to complete.

I’ll admit there is fear, but it’s healthy and I human and darn lucky in the dream. 🙂
