“Unexpected Guest”

You walk into your home to find a couple you don’t know sitting in your living room, eating a slice of cake. Tell us what happens next.

After completing my morning walk along the beach that ended with coffee with fellow walkers overlooking the ocean. We discuss and debated the important issues of the day, such as sports, the tides, and the upcoming Christmas holiday. These morning discussions always provide creative writing ideas.

When I returned home, I was shocked to find my two favorite aunts Emma & Catherine standing around my kitchen table.

On the table before them were mixing bowls, blenders, flour, baking powder, eggs, sugar, food coloring and every other ingredient needed to make my favorite Christmas dessert. Red Velvet, Raspberry filled cupcakes, with white icing.

After excitedly warm hugs and kisses, because after, all I’m their favorite nephew. I was overwhelmed with emotions, as I thought of my last encounter with several Red Velvet Raspberry filled cupcakes.

While lost in thought, my aunt Catherine asked, was I ok.

When I returned to reality, I asked, how many cupcakes were they making.

Aunt Emma said they were making, fifty cupcakes, for the evening church Christmas Pageant, and I was only allowed two.

Now, in my mind, I was scheming a way to get more than my allotted two cupcakes.
However, since it was my kitchen, I will get to lick the bowls, spoons and any other utensil they used, which made me smile.
So when I answered yes, Ma’am with respect. My scheme to get at least ten or more cupcakes for myself began.

After they had poured the batter, I licked every utensil dry.

I told my aunt’s I had to run to the grocery store and asked if they needed anything? When they said no, I hurried to the grocery store to order twelve Red Velvet cupcakes, with raspberries filling with white icing.

I returned home in time to lick the bowl and utensils they made the icing with and enjoyed a great afternoon reminiscing with my aunts.

When it was time to leave for the church pageant I offered to drive them, and I would attend the Christmas Pageant. They were thrilled!

Using my car, I put their cupcakes in the trunk next to the store bought cupcakes I bought earlier.

Now, my only problem was transferring their cupcakes after we arrived at the Church. But, this was easily remedied when I stopped the car in front of the church instead of having them walk from the parking lot, and I told them I would bring the cupcakes inside with me.

Again their favorite nephew was the jewel of their eyes as I helped them from the car into the church.

After parking the car, I transferred twelve stores bought cupcakes into my aunt’s covered container.

Now, I sit here revising and editing this short story while snacking on Red Velvet Cup Cakes with Raspberry filling.

I have no guilt when I have my favorite Red Velvet, cupcakes, with Raspberry filling and white icing, like the photo above. 🙂

Hopefully, none of my family members will read this and squeal on me.
