“New Sensation”

Ah, sweet youth. No matter whether you grew up sporting a fedora, penny loafers, poodle skirts, bell-bottoms, leg warmers, skinny jeans; Madonna-Inspired net shirts and rosaries, goth garb, a spike mohawk, or even a wave that would put Justin Bieber to shame, you made a fashion statement, unique to you. Describe your favorite fashions from days of yore or current trends you thin are styling.

quote

Fashion and styles are set by region, environment and shaped individually.

The word prompt “New Sensation,” evokes the memory of the song a New Sensation by INXS. I remember many years ago when my Uncle was showing off a new pair of pants called stovepipes with his black shoes and waist length sweater wearing his dark sunglasses.

When he twirled showcasing his cool style fashion, my grandmother stated. Everything you wear will go out of style and one day return. At the time of the statement, it was the mid 60’s and her prediction was correct.

I have lived to see or should I say survived, bell bottom pants, with and without 2-inch cuffs. Studded blue jean bell bottom pants, Geri Curls, and Members only Jackets, however, I opted out of the parachute pants phase. I have matured and evolved to appreciate my grandmother’s comments and have taken them to heart.

Most of my life, I have worn a uniform of some type and in the second chapter of my life, I have adjusted to a new uniform of shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops, sunglasses, and cap.

Personal fashion and style contentment takes time and learning how to be comfortable with what you desire can change and evolve several times during a lifetime.

For me, fashion is what I buy and style is what I do with it. Yet, neither has no name, it’s just me.

I wonder if my cast will become an accessory? Thanks for the follow.

I remember buying a black pair of ‘old lady shoes’ in the Goodwill when I was 16 before the chunky heel became popular. I thought they looked cool, and I wasn’t allowed to wear heels, but my mom over looked these clunkers. I wore them with a mini skirt and black tights which started a trend at my school outside LA. Two years later shoes came out with chunky heels. We DO make trends in fashion. Follow your heart.

For me fashion is a dangerous thing due to my rampant shopping addiction which destroyed my career even before my drug addiction did and the fact that I almost lost my house because I spent the mortgage money on a Dior bikini and 3 pairs of matching sunglasses. Now I avoid fashion magazines, trendy stores and particularly expensive stores in case the shopping demon is awakened again! I go for a classic non fashion style that lasts from year to year, its boring but a lot safer!

Now that’s a great book beginning, but most importantly is knowing and admitting the addiction, while also avoiding the temptations. Go Girl! 🙂
