Write about your first name: Are you named after someone or something? Are there any stories or associations attached to it? If you had the choice, would you rename yourself?
My first name is Marty, and it is not shortened from Martin or Martha. There is no significant meaning or reason my parents chose the name, Marty. I have three younger siblings and their names begin with the letter “M.”
Many years ago, when visiting my sisters Mary, Marcia and brother Marvin we were discussing why our parents used the letter M in each of our first names. My son was less than a year old, and I was present to watch his birth, that was the ultimate experience.
I suggested our mother settled on the names based on the sound she hummed or yelled during our birth. I guessed it was Mmmmmm.
My suggested idea didn’t go over well with my sisters. However, it made my younger brother laugh.
My brother identified several of our friends who’s first names begin with the same first letter like the Stewart sisters, Shirley and Sharon. He guessed their mother yelled sh*% during childbirth.
I was laughing when, I assured him, from my experience that it was possible. 🙂
If I had the opportunity to change my name, I would change it to “Marcus.” No particular reason, I just like the name.
It begins with the letter “M” in honor of my mother birthing me. Mmmmmmmm 🙂
