In the coming weeks, some of WordPress’s daily word prompts responses will revolve around Jeffery and Jaqueline Lehman and their five-year-old son Jason over the holiday season.

With the approach of Thanksgiving, it had been six months since Jeffery’s mother had seen her first grandchild, Jason.

Jeffery and Jaqueline Lehman left two days before Thanksgiving to surprise Jeffery’s parents in San Diego CA. Although it’s an 8-hours drive, Jaqueline so wanted to get away for a change of pace.

The day before they were scheduled to leave, the couple had arrived home from work, cooked dinner, and packed the car for the trip in the morning. They were so excited they figured they would drive overnight. So, they secured Jason in his car seat and pulled away from their home just before midnight.

When they arrived at Jeffery’s parent’s home, they were exhausted and yet happy to be home with family.

Jeffery called both his parent’s cellular phones, but neither answered. It was not until 10:00 am when his mother returned the call telling him she and his father were at the recreational center teaching classes and they would be home before noon.

Jaqueline and Jeffery were a little bewildered and irked when Jeffery’s mother did not return home right away.

Jeffery and Jaqueline entered the house through the garage door after Jeffery’s mom gave him the new garage door code.

The couple was tired, but Jason who slept through the night wanted to play as any five-year-old would. They entertained their son as much as they could, but they were weary from driving overnight.

Two hours later, Jeffery’s parents arrived with three other couples carrying food and drink. Jeffery discovered his mother teaches a Yoga class, and she was hosting a Thanksgiving Day luncheon at her home for her twenty students and his dad’s teaches Tai-Chi Classes and his fifteen students arrived.

They played classic rock Christmas music from the 50’s 60’s, and 70’s using four Bose Bluetooth speakers one in the family room, two on pool-deck and one the kitchen.

With so many people attending the luncheon Jeffery and Jaqueline were irked when they were unable to get a couple of hours of sleep.

However, the grandparents and their guest entertained Jason all afternoon. Since Jason was the only grandchild for a house filled with grandparents, he was the center of attention and spoiled with receiving everything he wanted. He learned yoga positions, Tai-Chi moves and they danced and partied until 5:00 pm.

Jeffery & Jaqueline learned a valuable holiday lesson. Always check to see what your parents are doing prior surprising them.

Thanks for sharing this article, it is very interesting to note that this was not a surprise for the parents.
