When I was newly assigned, my heart was filled with pride and honor, but, quickly I recognized it was I who was the apprentice and intern who learned to appreciated the honor it was to represent, you all.

I have reflected upon my times here in the field with a company of men and women whom I have shared traumatic emotional moments of tragedy and victory revealing the proud soldier within me and within us all.

Although I am saddened as our time grows to an end, we will separate seeking the comfort of blood relatives, the shelters of our birth homes and communities.

So, today I’m saying goodbye to my camaraderie of family and friends, whom I will cherish forever the emotional love and honor I have for you all for the rest of my life.

It has been stated an officer leads his troops, but I have discovered it is we who works together to ensure we are victorious and most importantly return home, as the first sergeant has drilled into me.

I will end my speech with the wisdom I have learned.

Life is being an apprentice and internship learning discovering, building a resume of knowledge, skills, and abilities, to cease only upon our death.
