“Two Right Feet”

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Two Right Feet.”

What are the things you need to do within 30 minutes of waking up to make sure your day gets off on the right foot? What happened the last time you didn’t do one of these things?

I usually wake up between 5-6 am when I look towards the window and see the light of day breaking through the corner of the blinds. I noticed the sound of rain outside the window and I thought of a rainy day filled with reading.

I thought of many other errands I could do, however the sound of the rain was easing me into a trance of reading, so I reached for my iPad on the night stand and I began to read one of the novels on my Kindle application.

An hour has passed and I changed to another book, on the application and soon after a trip to the bathroom, I returned to reading with the blinds still drawn.

I soon hear the sound of thunder and realize I should at least look outside to see how bad the weather was, however, I just continued reading and another couple of hours passed before I lookout the window to see it was still raining and I returned to reading another novel.

It is now eleven o’clock when I realize, it is still raining and I’m almost finished with the novel but, I drift back to sleep. When I awake, it is 1:00 pm, and I’m hungry, so I lay in bed and realized I should have begun my day several hours earlier, with a shower, breakfast and a cup of coffee.

It was the sound rain lulling me into the trance of reading my day away instead of showering, eating breakfast with a cup of coffee, taking me out of my normal habit of getting out of bed within thirty minutes of waking.
