Day 5: Map, Ode, Metaphor; “Alpine Zoneโ€

Maps tell stories about places we know and others we wish to visit. About technology and the speed with which we can traverse vast distances, and about the things weโ€™ll see (or avoid) on our way fromย point A to point B.

I have chosen to write about an actualย region on a map. No particular route yet, a poem about a location I have inhabited

Alpine Zone

Bike, hike, climb, a peak

Eyes closed, seeing senses,

Summer suns my cheeks,

Soft edge needles I sense,

Ponderosa, Douglas Fir, & Lodgepole,

Pungent Western Pine forest tickles my senses

    1. I have driven through the Cascades towards the Washington and Oregon Coastlines on my motorcycle.

I stopped in the Western US Cascades mountains to enjoy the colorful beauty, splendid alpine smell, and the climate change.

At the time, I was not a writer, just a traveler, yet my experience hโ€‹as been embedded as part of my essence and memory ever since. .
